We are the training institution of choice for professional and amateur pilots. Our focus is on preparing pilots for a career in aviation

Instrument Flight Rules - Multi Engine (M-IFR)

The Instrument Flight Rules - Multi Engine (M-IFR) Rating allows pilots to fly a multi-engine aircraft in lower visibility conditions and through cloud, when operating in accordance with an IFR flight plan. The Ottawa International Airport offers a busy IFR environment to learn the skills to operate in any airspace. With precision and non-precision approaches available, students don't have to go far to find the approaches and navigation aids required for training. The Ottawa Flight College also offers training for single-engine instrument ratings.

Instrument Flight Rules - Single Engine (S-IFR)

The Instrument Flight Rules - Single Engine (S-IFR) Rating allows pilots to fly a single-engine aircraft in lower visibility conditions and through cloud, when operating in accordance with an IFR flight plan. The Ottawa International Airport offers a busy IFR environment to learn the skills to operate in any airspace. With precision and non-precision approaches available, students don't have to go far to find the approaches and navigation aids required for training. The Ottawa Flight College also offers training for multi-engine instrument ratings.

Professional Development Programs

Professional Development programs provide additional licenses and ratings that are commonly required in commercial operations.  The Private Pilot License is a prerequisites to vocational training as a Commercial Pilot (CPL) and the Night Rating is included in the Commercial Pilot program. The remaining licenses and ratings can be earned as and when required. While these ratings are not mandatory for all commercial pilot jobs, each job and environment will have its own requirements.  Pilots planning on a career should earn the ratings that

Multi-Engine Class Rating

The Ottawa Flight College offers advanced training in multi-engine aircraft operations. The multi-engine class rating is a stepping stone to flying larger,
more complex aircraft in an airline or commercial operation.

Float Plane Class Rating

Flying a float plane is tremendously fun.  Its a boat that flies, combining aspects of sailing with flying.  For pilots that learn to fly on land aircraft, a float plane offers another level of freedom and a tremendous number of places to land. Much of the flying is done at lower altitudes.

Cost of Flight Training Programs

The cost of the flight training programs is based on our standard pricing and estimates of the amount of flight training that the "average" student will require to complete the program.  The cost for any individual student may be more or less than this estimate depending on their individual level of skill and ability.

The cost estimates do not include:

Private Pilot License

A Private Pilot License (PPL) truly gives you the freedom of flight.  With your PPL, you can fly an aircraft, take friends and family for rides, travel on your own schedule and explore the romance of flight. The PPL is the basis for all additional licenses and ratings and its the first license most pilots earn.

Foreign Students

If you will be applying from outside of Canada, there are a couple of things that you need before you can study at the Ottawa Flight College. In order to be accepted to our school, you must arrange for the following:

Instructor Rating

They say you never learn as much as you do when you are the teacher.  The Instructor Rating allows a commercial pilot to teach other pilots how to fly.  Learning how to teach flying will sharpen your skills and knowledge tremendously.  Working as an instructor can be a rewarding career in and of its own.  It can also be a stepping stone to a career as a pilot.  Regardless of where you end up, being able to share in the passion of flight and provide others the opportunity to spread their wings is a gratifying experience.
