About the Ottawa Flight College

The Ottawa Flight College is the largest aviation school in Eastern Ontario and is one of the premier flight colleges in Canada.
We are the training institution of choice for professional and amateur pilots. Our focus is on preparing pilots for a career in aviation
through high-quality training with a no-compromise attention to safety. Unlike other schools which teach to the minimum standards
where students "graduate" without real-world experience, we provide complete training that builds confidence and makes our

Instrument Flight Rules - Multi Engine (M-IFR)

The Instrument Flight Rules - Multi Engine (M-IFR) Rating allows pilots to fly a multi-engine aircraft in lower visibility conditions and through cloud, when operating in accordance with an IFR flight plan. The Ottawa International Airport offers a busy IFR environment to learn the skills to operate in any airspace. With precision and non-precision approaches available, students don't have to go far to find the approaches and navigation aids required for training. The Ottawa Flight College also offers training for single-engine instrument ratings.

Instrument Flight Rules - Single Engine (S-IFR)

The Instrument Flight Rules - Single Engine (S-IFR) Rating allows pilots to fly a single-engine aircraft in lower visibility conditions and through cloud, when operating in accordance with an IFR flight plan. The Ottawa International Airport offers a busy IFR environment to learn the skills to operate in any airspace. With precision and non-precision approaches available, students don't have to go far to find the approaches and navigation aids required for training. The Ottawa Flight College also offers training for multi-engine instrument ratings.

Professional Development Programs

Professional Development programs provide additional licenses and ratings that are commonly required in commercial operations.  The Private Pilot License is a prerequisites to vocational training as a Commercial Pilot (CPL) and the Night Rating is included in the Commercial Pilot program. The remaining licenses and ratings can be earned as and when required. While these ratings are not mandatory for all commercial pilot jobs, each job and environment will have its own requirements.  Pilots planning on a career should earn the ratings that

Multi-Engine Class Rating

The Ottawa Flight College offers advanced training in multi-engine aircraft operations. The multi-engine class rating is a stepping stone to flying larger,
more complex aircraft in an airline or commercial operation.

Float Plane Class Rating

Flying a float plane is tremendously fun.  Its a boat that flies, combining aspects of sailing with flying.  For pilots that learn to fly on land aircraft, a float plane offers another level of freedom and a tremendous number of places to land. Much of the flying is done at lower altitudes.

Night Rating

The night rating adds to your PPL license, giving you more proficiency, enjoyment and flexibility by allowing you to fly at night. It is also one of the building blocks to achieving a Commercial Pilot License and is included in the Commercial Pilot License program.  Taken on its own, the Night Rating is non-vocational.

Cost of Flight Training Programs

The cost of the flight training programs is based on our standard pricing and estimates of the amount of flight training that the "average" student will require to complete the program.  The cost for any individual student may be more or less than this estimate depending on their individual level of skill and ability.

The cost estimates do not include:

Intensity of Flight Training Programs

Most flight training programs can be pursued either full-time or part-time.  Where the program is geared to full-time participation, this will be identified in the summary table.  Otherwise, the intensity will be listed as variable.
Full-time programs have a regular ground-school component that requires full-time commitment from the student to attend classes, keep-up with self-study, homework and assignments and prepare for flight training.

Duration of Flight Training Programs

The duration of our training programs shown in the summary tables is determined based on full-time concentration on the flight training portion of the program, the length of the ground school component and our experience with past student performance.  Optional training is not included in the time estimate.
