Recreational Programs

Our recreational flight training programs will teach you to fly and improve your skills and safety as a pilot.   The Recrational Pilot Permit or Private Pilot License are the first steps to becoming a pilot and having the freedom of the skies.  With these ratings you can add additional ratings and endorsements found in our Professional Development Programs to develop your skills as you gain experience and move to more complex aircraft.  (The Recreational Pilot Permit has limitations in its priviledges to single engine land or sea planes.)

While these individual licenses and ratings are considered non-vocational, professional commercial pilots will earn the Private Pilot License as the first step in their training.  Whether your intent is professional or recreational, the standards and training are the same.

The recreational programs are typically not as complex as the vocational programs so there is flexibility in how we can deliver them. You can choose the pace of the training - from high-intensity full-time to very relaxed occasional training.  If there are ground school classes, they are
relaxed and are typically held several times a year.

We provide our students and members with a scheduling service to help you plan your training.  Our schedulers can
help you build a flight training schedule that works for you whether it is flying several times a day or only once a month.

To round out your training and gain confidence in your abilities, consider participating in one of the Ottawa Flying
Club's long cross-country trips. These trips take a group of aircraft on a voyage of several thousand kilometers over several days.  Pilots take turns planning the various legs and flying the aircraft. With the support of experienced pilots, its a great way to put your training to use, build experience and have fun at the same time.
