Professional Pilot Program

The Professional Pilot Program (PPP) is a 12 month program culminating with a commercial pilots license. This is pure vocational training and preparation for a career in aviation. The PPP is aimed at students who already have a degree or diploma or do not intend to get one. The program will transition students from ab-initio to a Commercial License and a Night Rating. The training is condensed with the Private Pilots License and Commercial License being integrated together. Following the program, the student can choose additional professional-development programs for float plane ratings, multi-engine, IFR or instructor ratings. Read more ...

Commercial Pilot License

A Commercial Pilot License is required before you can work for hire.  It is a necessary license for any professional pilot and the basis for most of the advanced training. You must hold a Private Pilot License. The training includes a ground school, held twice weekly at night over a four month period, and a minimum of 30 hours of supervised solo flight and 35 hours of dual flight.  You will also spend several hours in the simulator.  In addition to these hours, you will require sufficient experience, called build-up-time, to reach 200 hours total time before you can get your CPL.  Read more ...

Instructor Rating

An Instructor Rating will allow you to teach other pilots how to fly. Earning the rating is more about learning to teach than it is about flying skill.  Read more ...

Recurrency and Type Checkouts

The Ottawa Flight College can assist you with Recurrency checks of your current license and ratings.  We can also provide checkout services for different models of aircraft.

To stay current as a pilot, you need to hold a valid Medical Certificate and meet the regulatory requirements for recency and currency.  Recency requirements are addressed in 5 year, 2 year and 6 month periods.  If you wish to act as a pilot-in-command or co-pilot of an aircraft, you must meet the 5 year and 2 year recurrency requirements.  If you wish to carry passengers, you must also meet the 6 month requirement.  The following are some of the recurrency and recency checks the Ottawa Flight College can provide.

  • 2 Year Currency Check

Recreational Programs

If you just want to learn to fly for fun or are expanding your professional repertoire, our recreational programs are just the ticket. We can train you to earn a new license or rating at your own pace. Where applicable, the ground school classes are more relaxed and are typically held more frequently. Our schedulers can help you build a flight training schedule that works for you. You can round out your training and gain confidence on one of the Ottawa Flying Club's long cross-country trips.
