The Algonquin College Aviation Management Program provides students with an Ontario College Diploma in General Arts and Sciences and the knowledge and skills to be a commercial pilot. In addition to the basic ground school and flight training, students will receive a wealth of aviation and business related knowledge and practical skills that will enhance their attractiveness to prospective employers.
The program includes the Commercial Pilots License with options in the final semester to earn an instructor rating, two-crew/cruise relief pilot or float rating. In total, students graduate with 250 hours of flight experience. The academic program includes courses in business computer applications, communications, mathematics, management, business essentials, marketing, ethics and one general elective. Additional practical skills courses include first aid, safety management systems, aircraft maintenance, crew resource management, glass cockpit technologies and land survival training.
Compared with the Professional Pilot Program, the Aviation Management Program provides additional courses and learning opportunities which result in a valuable college diploma. This is an ideal vocational program for younger students entering college right out of high school. The college environment provides structure and the broad curriculum is well rounded.
In addition to the training, Algonquin College also provides the students with several job opportunities and awards such as the Air Canada Jazz Award where a student selected by their peers has the opportunity to compete for a first officer's position with Air Canada Jazz.
To succeed in the Aviation Management Program, students need to have a love of aviation, a sense of organization and attention to detail, personal discipline and drive, the financial resources to complete the program and strong analytical and observational skills.
